blog hiatus

First of all I want to start by thanking those of you who stayed following me even though I haven’t posted in months! There were some major life changes happening and blogging was pushed to the bottom of the list of my priorities.

Also, when I started this blog I did it as an escape. We had just bought a house and neither of us were enjoying it. With the exception of having my best friend/love of my life by my side, I was escaping the fact that I was living somewhere I didn’t like, doing things that I didn’t like, and living a life that didn’t look at all how I expected my life to look like. I lived in a state of stress.

Needless to say, I gained 30lbs. I let go of myself so I started blogging blinded to the fact that I wasn’t myself anymore. I’m extremely fortunate to have Mat as my life partner. He’s helped me and has been there for me in ways that I’ve never seen or experienced before!

Now my existential storm has passed. We sold the house and made the changes that were necessary to have peace of mind. I feel so much better about who I am as an individual! I’ve lost the weight I gained by cutting out junk food and unhealthy snacks from my diet and I started to workout every day.

I am currently doing the PIIT28 challenge by Blogilates. This Friday will be my 14th day which is supposed to be the day I compare my first before & after photos, so I will be posting about it here, maybe some of you will be motivated to take on the challenge! *wink face*

Skin care products worth having

Lately I’ve come across articles about skin care and I’ve been learning a lot of stuff that I totally didn’t even think about before! One of the things I’ve learned is my type of skin, which is combination. Another thing I’ve learned is how important it is to use a makeup primer. And lastly, that eye makeup remover is a good thing to have. With that said, I invested in a makeup primer, an eye makeup remover, a combination skin moisturizer for my face and I threw in a bronzer just for fun!

Even though I always try to keep my makeup at a minimum to achieve a natural look, my face has felt the absence of primer. In other words: pimples and clogged pores! So I took a trip to Sephora to ask about primers. The lady gave me two samples, one from Tarte and the other one from Make Up For Ever. I took them home and after trying the Tarte one I immediately felt the difference, my skin felt fresh and way less oily throughout the whole day! The other one didn’t make my face feel as good as the Tarte one (it felt oily, not as fresh, not as soft, and the primer itself is tinted), I feel like it even made me break out a little so I decided not to use it again.

I had never used an eye makeup remover before but this one is well priced so I decided to go for it. I also trust the Sephora collection so I thought it was a good decision to start with this one since I don’t know much about eye makeup removers. In my opinion, this one is really good, makeup comes off instantly and it doesn’t leave your skin oily even though the liquid itself gives you the opposite impression.

I’ve never used a moisturizer specifically for combination skin. If you’re not sure what type of skin you have, it’s pretty easy to figure out. If your face is completely oily then your type is oily skin. If your face it completely dry, then it’s dry skin. And if your face is dry on your cheeks but oily on your t-zone then it’s combination. There are a ton of products specifically for dry or oily skin but there aren’t many for combination, so I was happy to find this one by bare minerals, and even better, with good reviews!

Lastly is this matte Hoola bronzer by Benefit. I’ve seen so many great reviews about it and I wanted to give it a try. I’ll be applying only a little bit right below my cheek bones to better define my face. Like I said before, I try to keep my makeup at a minimum so this will probably last me a long, long time!

Also, I just wanted to point out that even though makeup is really fun and taking care of your face and skin in general is great, all of us were beautifully made and our identity shouldn’t be placed on our looks but on who we are based on who made us! :)

My favorite mascaras

I’ve used many types and brands of mascara, but I’m really happy to have found four that work best on me so I thought I’d share them with you all :)

First is the colossal chaotic waterproof mascara by maybelline. This mascara makes your eyelashes look really messy and funky. This is my go-to mascara for date nights or nights out (concerts and stuff like that).

Another one that I really like is the voluminous miss manga eyes by l’oreal. This is the one that I use for day dates. It’s easy to use and it leaves your eyes looking like you have doll eyes! They also have another manga mascara that leaves your lashes spiky but I haven’t tried that one (have you? If so, how is it?).

Next is this little buxom one. I got it as a reward at Sephora and now that I’m almost done with it I’m debating buying the normal size version because I like it a lot! At first I was hesitant to use it but it’s actually really nice. It feels really smooth when you’re applying it and it makes your eyelashes look longer.

Lastly, my all time favorite: the Sephora collection outrageous volume. The name says it all folks. Your eyelashes will look outrageously long and voluminous! I found it while looking for a different mascara a long time ago and it’s become my makeup staple item. I simply love it and I highly recommend it!

Comment with your favorite mascaras! I’d love to know what products you use :)

Also, some of you have asked me where to get the stuff I post about so I just wanted to point out that if you click on the item’s name, the link will take you directly to its website! :)
